NU TRIO is a fresh, innovative and up-and-coming Montreal based ensemble. The group has been active as a string trio performing concerts, dance events and weddings in Montreal since 2016. Founding members Matthew (cello) and Veronika (violin) met each other while playing in the same orchestra at Mcgill University in Montreal, later adding violist Chung-Han Hsiao. The three have each graduated from classical performance programs at top Canadian Universities/ Conservatories and individually have performance experience spanning the farthest reaches of the globe including China. The three musicians are fascinated and passionate about the less known repertoire written for string trio. The genre of the string trio exploits the different registers of the three instruments, and exposes their independent roles; scaling down the standard string quartet (containing the usual second violin). NU TRIO are known for their eclectic repertoire that includes classical composers but also contemporary pop and world music.
